Copa del Atlántico de Clubes 1956

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copa do Atlantico de Clubes 1956 - also Spanish Copa del Atlántico - was a South American club soccer competition that was played once in 1956. It was organized by the three football associations of Argentina , Brazil and Uruguay , with 5 teams each participating. Between June 20 and July 7, the finalists were played in the cup system without a second leg. The final games - in which the tournament winner was to be the club who was the first to achieve two wins in three games - did not take place because CA Boca Juniors was angry that the first game was played in Buenos Aires and the following two games in São Paulo should be and therefore saw themselves at a disadvantage. Corinthians São Paulo was then declared the winner. The star player of Corinthians at that time was Cláudio , who is still the club's record scorer today.

The tournament should not be confused with the Copa del Atlántico 1947 and the Copa del Atlántico , also known as Taça do Atlântico, for the national teams of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, which was held in 1956, 1960 and 1976.
